INTRODUCTION A further report from our "stealth" community where we are building information libraries & resource banks to provide support to those who survive the coming bad times. Our community is aimed at helping those who are still alive after the mayhem of the coming Dark Age has burned itself out. |
UPDATE 3 FROM THE COMMUNITY AT "TERMINUS" We have abandoned all work on the Oracle project (see my last report for details of the project). The technology was simply too much of a challenge for us. We also have run out of time, as I will explain in a moment. As an alternative we have bought a large number of reconditioned notebook computers which we hope to program up to act as Oracles. Personally, I'm not convinced about this idea - even if packaged in rugged cases, I'm not sure if many of those computers will start up again in 10 or 20 years time. Here at our community, we have been watching those brave people who are posting their experiences of "post Peak Oil" life at the WorldWithoutOil website. To be honest we have been very startled at how so many people have convinced themselves that Peak Oil is a single event where fuel prices simply increase 50% or so. In reality Peak Oil is the start of an "energy descent" which has no end. The current fuel price & availability problems are simply the start. Once this false plateau of price stability is over, fuel prices will climb inexorably and supplies will decline. What many don't realise is that most oil derived products will also become hard to find. Just take a look around you to see how much you rely on products made in some way from crude oil. In five years time many of these products will simply be unavailable. Few plastics factories will exist in 20 years time - you won't be able to find anything made from crude oil ...unless it's been recycled. Our grandchildren will still be using plastic utensils ... but these utensils will have been manufactured in the last few years. The grandchildren of our grandchildren will probably be using wooden cups or leaves to drink from. Their clothes will be leather or cotton .. certainly not acrylic fibre. The WWO post by Cid Yama shows that he is one of the few who understands what's coming. Whilst we share Cid's despair, here at our community we pray that Global Warming doesn't wipe out humanity. We also feel that we must "do something" of value to society. We doubt that short term activities will have much effect - so we are taking a long term view. We cannot hope to prevent the mayhem which is about to lay waste to the world - but we can possibly assist some of the survivors. Accordingly we are manufacturing "time capsules" of books, music, art and other information. These packages will hopefully provide some inspiration and hope to the devastated world which will follow the coming Dark Age . Now to an important piece of news which has caused us to change our plans here. A contact in Saudi Arabia has informed us that Saudi oil output "peaked" 18 months ago .. and is about to enter a steep terminal decline. Saudi Arabia has decided to terminate all exports in order to provide for its own population. Kuwait has made the same decision. Our contact also believes that Iran and other Middle East oil & gas suppliers will rapidly announce similar measures. This news is going to be made public in the next 36 hours. Endless "energy descent" has arrived. Be prepared to say goodbye to pesticides, motor fuel, plastic bags, synthetic fertilisers, electricity, airplane flights, new computers, paper, medicines etc etc etc. Say hello to famine, war, violence, rape, illness, cold, death. "Normal life" for you - and me - and for everyone - is now over. We are well funded and have quite of lot of fuel here, so we should be able to continue operations for many months. During that time we will distribute & secrete as many "time capsules" as possible around the country. Once that is done, our main mission will have been completed. The community will then switch over to "survival mode" in an attempt to survive the troubles that are sure to come in the next few months. We have no idea if we will be able to survive the gangs that will scour the country for food and goods .. but we certainly have no intention of going quietly! I would like to say "Until next time" .... but I don't think that we will be talking again. Keep safe everyone. regards, Hari & Dors Seldon |
