INTRODUCTION A further report from our "stealth" community where we are building information libraries & resource banks to provide support to those who survive the coming bad times. Our community is aimed at helping those who are still alive in the mid/late "T4" period as described by Dr Bakhtiari i.e. after the mayhem of the coming Dark Age has burned itself out. (For further details on Dr Bakhtiari's T1, T2, T3 & T4 timeframes see details of his work at EnergyBulletin . My interpretation of his work is as follows T1 is a period of almost "business as usual". T2 is a time of "turmoil". T3 will be when the world's systems start to unravel, creating a new Dark Age. T4 corresponds to "Game Over".) |
THE POOR DELUDED FOOLS ... Before I get stuck into my update, I need to get something off my chest .. I have been tracking a useful website at http://www.worldwithoutoil.org/ which is monitoring the progress of Peak Oil. It is clear that we are still in Dr Bakhtiari's T1 phase ... the "business as usual" plateau. However the outside world seems to think that the recent stabilisation in fuel prices indicates that the panic is over and that Peak Oil has been and gone. Why can't they see that Dr Bakhtiari's T2 phase is on the horizon ... and that it is approaching slowly but surely .. and unstoppable? Are they ready for the sudden irreversible & steep decline of oil & natural gas availability when T2 arrives in a few months? What will happen to their community vegetable gardens and self-help groups then? How will they protect themselves from outsiders ... and even each other ... as economic collapse & famine arrive? Don't they realise that 95% of their current lives arrived in a huge container ship from China? When these ships stop coming, where will people get new shoes, new underwear, replacement bicycle tyres etc? The hippy, touchy-feely, caring approach to Peak Oil will fade away when the lights go out, the supermarkets close & the snows arrive. The poor deluded fools .... |
UPDATE 2 FROM THE COMMUNITY AT "TERMINUS" I have been moved from The Library where I worked mainly on duplicating useful DVDs for use after the coming Dark Age. As I have experience with microprocessor software & hardware design, I am now working on our Oracle project. Essentially we are trying to design a highly reliable & rugged, miniature & portable low cost computer system. The units will be solar powered and will have a small display screen, built-in loudspeaker and simple but very rugged keypad. These small hand-held computers will contain no/few moving parts, and will be able to survive, water, heat, rough handling and so on. The units will contained a huge amount of FLASH memory containing much useful data. These computers will be created as Oracles: An Oracle is an object considered to be the source of wise counsel or prophetic opinion; an infallible authority, (See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oracle for details of where the word originates) The Oracles will be menu driven through some simple keys, and will allow Encyclopaedia data to be accessed, and also practical training courses, selected books, mathematical tuition and so on. One of our first Oracle prototypes  This is nearer to our "end product" ... this includes the solar cell" frame".  We soon realised that no single Oracle unit could have enough FLASH memory to hold all the data etc that we wish to pass on into the future. We have therefore reluctantly decided to create many different models of the Oracle, each loaded with a different set of data. By the way, I have now found why the community DVD creation projects are short of content editors & producers ... these people are mostly working on this project! The reason for this is now clear - the Oracle project can only be carried out in Dr Bakhtiari's T1 phase (see above) i.e. when it's still roughly "business as usual". The Oracle hardware is complex and can only built in Taiwan - and once Peak Oil starts biting that option will be closed to us. We are in a great hurry as we are not sure if we have weeks, months or years to finish the development part of the Oracle project, and then arrange for many thousands of units to be built .. probably at a Taiwanese toy factory! The unit cost is amazingly low - the factories can turn out thousands of this sort of thing every hour! Once the Oracle project is complete I expect to return to the DVD and printing projects. They are less time critical - we already have large stocks of blank paper & blank DVDs. Until next time ... regards, Hari |
